A redesign can improve a site, but it can also damage search visibility if URLs, titles, content, and redirects are handled badly.
Map Existing URLs
Export the current important URLs before redesign work starts. Decide whether each page stays, redirects, or is removed.
Keep Useful Content
Do not remove strong content just because the new design is cleaner. Rewrite and reorganise where needed, but preserve pages that earn traffic or enquiries.
Plan Redirects
If URLs change, create 301 redirects from old URLs to the closest matching new pages.
Test Before Launch
Check metadata, headings, mobile layout, forms, sitemap, robots settings, and redirects before switching the new site live.
A redesign should improve the site without making search engines rediscover everything from scratch.
